Everything school means everything.
Look at those returns. That is awesome.
The one thing I have consistently lamented is the omnipresent competence of schools like Michigan and Oklahoma.
They earn a helluva lot, they have deep pocketed boosters, and as national brands they aggressively market and protect their IPs, even as they reinvest across all their programs. Their money goes to wins, not facilities: from wrestling to football, hoops to hockey. As a result, they are just seemingly good at everything.
Alabama has rarely been able to make that claim. It is usually dominant in one or two sports, competitive in several more, and all over the map (including even unacceptable) in the balance. The goal however ought to be like Michigan — or, Alabama living up to its own formidable starpower and market positioning.
Now with belt tightening happening across the board in college sports (and Greg Byrne no longer in love with renovating his executive suites three times in nine years), the Crimson Tide seems finally have gotten the memo. At the very least, it is getting better return on its investment.
Hoes mad.
Oh, no doubt Team 30 spent all week scouting just one pitcher, and they knew Maya Johnson like a Biblical Concordance, but “tipped off?” Maybe we should ask USC Upstate, who ripped Johnson for 15 hits and plated another 10 runs?
Scattering five hits, whiffing seven times, and being shut out in six of seven innings, hardly sounds like the Astros reborn.
Maybe, just maybe Alabama is among the best in the country, and accustomed to seeing the best every week? Because that sure seems to be what this is is saying…
As fantastic as Pat Murphy’s squad was been in the circle — and all three ladies impressed, they honestly had the best stretch of fielding we’ve seen from them all year. Literally every game had at least one highlight reel moment.
Unfortunately, much like the first game between USC upstate and the Tide, the Crimson died essentially went through the motions in another 9–0 run-rule of the outclassed visitors.
With the win, Alabama went perfect in the Tuscaloosa region, advanced to the Supers for a record 20th time, did not surrender a run, and outscored its opponents 20–0.
What’s next for the Tide? That remains to be seen. But we will be back in Rhoads next week to do it again. And since all 12 SEC teams advanced to their regional finals today, there could be a lot of familiarity in Tuscaloosa when we next gather.
But for now, we savor this one.
