Nothing makes sense here.
Nate Oats has done some late tinkering with the Alabama basketball roster, signing lightly-regarded seven-footer, TJ St Louis from Canada’s Erie Academy.
Horrified from years of getting mauled in the post, Alabama is trying mightily to beef up its front court, and now half a dozen Tide players stand 6’10” or taller /— on a per-player basis on par with Florida.
But one asks why this player, and why now? Alabama didn’t need another project player (and St. Louis isn’t even on the ESPN Top 300 list), nor did it require a giant body that no one else would even sniff (when was the last time you saw a seven footer with any sort of potential who was not the object of a fierce recruiting war)? The Tide already has four such marginal guys on scholarship.
Meanwhile, Biz has begun practice again, and he most certainly will be manning the point. But he’s also ‘Bama’s best (and only reliable) three-point weapon. Nate should have been setting his sights on a deep stroke to help generate offense when Holloway is on the bench, not another major risk.
Alabama needs guards. It needs shooters. It needs ballhandlers. This is a catastrophically thin backcourt the Tide trot out in 2027, but nothing was done to address that, instead choosing that ephemeral filly “potential” over the reliable nag in the stable called “unsexy productivity.”
