This One Hurts: Josh Ford broke his arm, questionable Saturday against Georgia

The worst possible injury, at the worst possible time

If it were not for bad news, there would be no news at all — at least on the injury front.

The heart and soul of the big uglies, the physical sparkplug that has been the catalyst for the Tide’s resurgent offensive line and running game, TE Josh Ford, broke his arm this past Saturday against Mississippi State:

Coach DeBoer tried to put some positive spin on it, but he just had surgery Sunday:

Alabama tight end Josh Ford sustained a broken arm in the Mississippi State game and had surgery Sunday, Kalen DeBoer said Wednesday.

DeBoer added Ford is “determined to get on the football field,” adding that he’s “progressing along fairly well right now.”

“We’ll kind of see how the week continues for him,” DeBoer said. “I know where his mindset is at. Just got to make sure he meets the levels he needs to meet as far as being physically ready. He’s doing a great job. It’s going well. We’re optimistic.”

On paper, if anyone were well-equipped to handle the loss of a tight end for a game or two, it’s Alabama, a team with a TE room that goes four-deep. But Ford does so much more than block a little, or catch passes. He’s been the energetic madman that fuels the Tide’s line play. He’s been a leader on the field and in practice. And he’s a great player in his own right.

With a very physical UGA team coming to town with their usual stockpile of NFL defenders in tow, and the terrible weather making this a game that will be decided up front, it’s a huge loss to ‘Bama. It’s also a huge loss to Ford, personally. The kind of competitor he is, this is exactly the sort of game he’d revel in and want to test himself. You want to beat the best.

Let’s hope for his sake, and for the Tide’s, he’s able to play Saturday and be the dominant player we’ve seen the first half of the season. Fortunately, he’s nasty as hell, and equally tough. If anyone is willing to grit it out, it’s Josh.

But, damn, fellas. This one sucks.

Built Ford Tough by Bama? New slogan. Ain’t no way that dude isn’t on the field Saturday. I’d hate to be the sumbitch to try to keep him off it.

I think you’ll probably play too. He played Saturday with a broken arm. And no one knew shit. and it was broken bad enough to where he needed surgery. And he did it without a club or cast.

That is a tough, crazy motherfucker

As Nick Nolte said in North Dallas Forty- “Better football through chemistry”. Get the needles ready.

Seems like another season where the same thing happens. Our key players get hurt and UGA seems to skate through. It must be nice having a soft a baby shit schedule before playing any real teams.
