We’re gonna’ party like it’s 2013

You have got to be kidding me?

So, this popped up today, and pretending to be a responsible member of the media, I immediately hit my Rolodex and called my #sauces in Tallahassee.

Jimbo Fisher "really wants" the FSU job, and FSU brass is looking into it, per The Athletic's Bruce Feldman.

"Jimbo's rosters didn't stink," one source said. "His ability to adapt to modern football is what caught up with him."

Sound silly? Lunacy? Boomers looking for a semblance of comfort in the familiar? An exorbitant waste of money?

To a sane person that has watched a football game in the last half decade, it is all of those things. But according to my #sauce in Tally, the following are true:

  1. Yes, this is accurate. FSU is genuinely thinking about bringing back Jimbo. And the Chancellor, at least two Regents, and one very wealthy booster want it to happen.
  2. The decision on Norvell could come as early as this weekend unless “we look like a real ‘Noles team. He ain’t gotta win, but…”
  3. The spitballing hasn’t gotten much further other than speculation and some support as listed above, but “the money is lining up early, and they’re loud.”
  4. I asked what could save Norvell’s job, and said “FSU still has all of the season goals ahead of them. So, given the breaks and handouts, what happens if they win a natty?” Their answer was “not even that. The cancer has spread too deep. Shit, sorry about that. But Mike lost trust with the most important people; the shoe company.”
  5. Even if FSU brought Jimbo back, don’t expect it to happen before a new AD is brought on board — and they would have to be hired contingent on accepting it. Then we have to still pretty it up with a search committee and that rigamarole (sp?).”
  6. “But, it ain’t gonna’ work. After Roger Waters left, was Floyd ever truly back even when they were touring as “Pink Floyd?”

They say the definition of insanity is yadda yadda yadda. But the flipside to doing the same ole thing is that sometimes the old thing was pretty damn effective. And in an era where everyone can write checks, Fisher won’t even have to hide it anymore.

But he still needs to hire an offensive coordinator.

Typical for FSU. They are dying to drag all that old faded G&G apparel. Their fanbase are the 10RC off the SEC!

That’s a great analogy…but Tennessee would kill to have the run FSU did between 1988 and 2003.

Maybe he just wants his old Christmas tree back?

Tree abandoned outside of Jimbo’s house in Tallahassee, just before leaving for the A&M job

The real question here is why can the AD in week 2 if you aren’t serious about moving to the front of the line for this year’s coaches carousel. Jimbo, despite his positives, is the last call booty call to your ex in this scenario. FSU seems a bit systematic in how they are going to let Norvell play out to suggest they are waiting till midnight to find who they intend to spent quality time with.

We are still in an environment where money/resources and expectations/logic are wildly decoupled. And the people who have a net worth in the 8-9-10 digit range are not guaranteed to have acquired the former through a reasonable exercise of the latter.
